Snowy Owl - Foxford December 2008

A young Snowy Owl (possibly male) was found injured near Foxford on 31st December 2008.
The Snowy was taken to a vet, and then onwards to a 'bird shelter' in Galway, for some tlc.
Unfortunately the bird was too badly injured and was unable to fully recover from its injuries.

Snowy Owls live in the Tundra areas of Northern Scandinavia, Iceland and Russia and are rarely found in Ireland, although one has been seen regularly on the Belmullet Peninsula in the Spring and Autumn over the last three years.  It is thought that the Foxford Snowy is a wild bird, although unclear whether it is the same bird seen in Belmullet recently.
